Sarah further characterised interactome of calcitonin receptor-like receptor (CLR) in human endothelial cells, based on recent identification of 37 novel interactions (Manolis et al., 2023; https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.04.18.537143v1). She progressed to her third year in BSc Biomedical Science at the University of Hull. 

Shalin abraham

NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Oncology (2024).


Shalin worked on cell signalling in pancreatic cancer. She progressed to study a PhD at the University of Oxford (2024-Present).


Mike Winter

Research Assistant (2024).


Mike established a bioinformatics platform for the analysis of whole genome sequencing data from of pancreatic cystic fluid using University of Hull's High Performance Computer, VIPER. He progressed to writing up his PhD in Biology at University of Hull (2020-Present).

Paulo SALDANHA

PhD Student in Biomedical Science (2018-2024).


During his PhD Paulo studied the interaction between protein kinase A (PKA) and the myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1) and their role on endothelial cell physiology. He progressed to work as a Post Doctoral Research Assistant at Imperial College London (2024-Present).


Matthew Morfitt

PhD Student in Biomedical Science (2018-2023).


During his PhD, Matthew studied the properties of calcitonin receptor-like receptor and its response to stimulation with its agonists, before and after treatment with anti-angiogenic drugs targeting the VEGF-A pathway in primary human endothelial cells from blood vessels and renal cancer cells. He progressed to work as an Assay Development Scientist at Labcorp Drug Development (2023-2024). He is now studying Medicine at the University of Chester (2024-Present).



Ruslana Flocea

Graduate Research Assistant at University of Hull Graduate Internship Scheme (2022).


Ruslana developed the endothelial-cell.com website that aims to raise community and public awareness of the research into the role of endothelial cells in the pathogenesis of chronic diseases and emphasise the value of leading a healthy lifestyle. She progressed to study a MSc in International Health Management at Imperial College London (2022-2023). Ruslana now works as a consultant at the World Health Organisation (2023-Present). 


Xuanyuan ZHANG

Xuanyuan established a bioinformatics platform for the analysis of gene expression microarray data using University of Hull's High Performance Computer, VIPER. He progressed to study for a PhD in Medical Sciences at Hull York Medical School (2022-Present).

Ikenna studied the expression pattern of proteins in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis using immunohistochemistry techniques. He progressed to work as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in the Department of Cellular Pathology at Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust (2022-Present).

Amy Brown

Final Year Undergraduate Research Project and University of Hull Graduate Internship/Research Assistant (2019-2020).

Amy studied how CGRP affects the permeability of human dermal lymphatic endothelial cells during her final year research project and then developed the digital practical booklets for the module Cell Structure and Function whilst working as a Research Assistant at the Endothelial cell in Health and Chronic Disease group. She progressed to study an MRes in Cancer Sciences at the University of Birmingham (2020-21). Amy went on to work as a Medical Writer at Nucleus Global and Health Interactions (2022-Present).

British Society for Cell Biology Summer Scholar, Final Year Undergraduate Research Project Student and University of Hull Graduate Internship/Research Assistant (2019-2020).

Karolina investigated how CGRP affected the development of F-actin stress fibres in human dermal lymphatic endothelial cells during her final year research project and then developed the Patient's Guide to Pulmonary Fibrosis Booklet whilst working as a Research Assistant at the Endothelial cell in Health and Chronic Disease group. She progressed to studying Medicine at King's College London (2020-Present).

AMELIA Gamble

Amelia studied the role of calcitonin receptor-like receptor (CLR) in human dermal blood endothelial cell biology. She progressed to study a PhD in the Staples' Lab at Bangor University (2019-2023). Amelia is currently a research assistant at Bangor University (2023-Present).

Lucia studied the role of angiopoietin-like 2 (ANGPTL2) protein in endothelial cells biology and vessel maturation in soft tissue sarcoma. She progressed to becoming a PhD student in Molecular Biomedicine at the University of Warwick on a A*STAR PhD Programme (2018-2024). She is now studying Medicine at the University of Cambridge (2024-Present)

Aziz studied the effect of ANGPTL2 on VEGF-A expression and endothelial monolayer permeability in human soft tissue sarcoma. He progressed to working at the the ProPharma Group as a Principal Information Specialist (2016-Present).

Lydia studied the role of calcitonin-like receptors (CLR) in human lymphatic endothelial cells. She progressed to study a MSc in Physician Associate Studies at the Hull York Medical School (HYMS) (2017-2019).

Ewan studied the role of calcitonin-like receptors (CLR) in human lymphatic endothelial cells. He progressed to study a PhD student in Molecular Biomedicine at the University of Warwick on a A*STAR PhD Programme (2017-2021). Ewan went on to work as a Scientist and Project manager at Evonic (2022-Present).

Edward studied the mechanisms regulating calcitonin receptor-like receptor expression and signalling in human blood vessel endothelial cells. He progressed to work as a research assistant at the University of Oxford (2017-Present). Edward is now the core facility assistant manager at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Oxford (Present).
